What is SMSC[Short Message Service Center]?

In this thread I've described about (SMSC) Short Message Service Center. So first of all, let us know what is SMSC?
A Short Message Service Center (SMSC) is a network element in the mobile telephone network. Its purpose is to store, forward, convert and deliver Short Message Service (SMS) messages.
When an SMS message is sent from a mobile phone, it will first reach an SMS center.
The SMS center, then forwards the SMS message towards the destination.
The main duty of an SMSC is to route SMS messages and regulate the process. If the recipient is unavailable (for example, when the mobile phone is switched off), the SMSC will store the SMS message.
It will forward the SMS message when the recipient is available and the message's expiry period is not exceeded.
Some users posted queries on Mi Devices that, they mentioned that they are not able to receive or send messages! Why does it happen?
It can be because, by chance, a user may have deleted/ edited an SMSC number by mistake which eventually don't allow them to receive/ send messages.
There are two methods to solve this issue

First method: You should call your network provider's customer care and ask for the SMSC number and replace/ edit SMSC number. Here are the steps to be followed to replace/ edit SMSC number
From Home screen goto-» Settings-» System apps.
System apps-» Select-» Messaging.
Additional settings-» Click on Short Message Service Center (SMSC) -» Replace/ edit.
Second method: Reset your device. Follow the steps below to Reset your device (Please take backup before you do so!)
From Home Screen go to-» Settings-» Additional settings.
Additional settings-» Backup & reset-» Factory reset.
Reset phone-» Confirm your password to reset your device.
Note: You will lose data when you reset your device. Please take backup before you perform a reset.
