Now-a-days everyone is using WiFi in their mobile phones it is discovered by 
Dr. John O'Sullivan an astrophysicist from Australia 
in 1991 later is revolutionized modern technology .Reasearch says that about 60% of Internet traffic comes through Wi-Fi.

   So generally Wi-Fi works through radiowaves for transmission of data so by using these waves there are certain problems like insecurity .and the speed of Wi-Fi so not so high it goes upto 100mbps atmost this is where Li-Fi comes into part.
    Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) is a bidirectional, high-speed and fully networked wireless communication technology similar to Wi-Fi. The term was coined by "Harald Haas" and is a form of visible light communication and a subset of optical wireless communications (OWC) and could be a complement to RF communication (Wi-Fi or cellular networks), or even a replacement in contexts of data broadcasting.

    It is wire and uv visible-light communication or infrared and near-ultraviolet instead of radio-frequency spectrum, part of optical wireless communications technology.

    Li-Fi in simple words we can says it uses light waves for transmission of data where it is 10,000 times faster than Wi-Fi and is secure has about 790 THz when compared to 300GHz of Wi-Fi .It is also robust .

-> Li-Fi can be used to transmit data underwater with more speed and accuracy .

Li-Fi works through LED's ,we can simply go near a light source and can access Internet through light waves . Our mobile phones has a receiver which sends or receives data through light with faster speeds the recent test speed of Li-Fi in Harvard University lab is 10GBPS and its just a starting speed it can go upto 1000GBPS with certain improvements .There are already used in some countries like USA,Russia,China etc., soon will be available to all.
